The power of a gun can kill
and the power of fire can burn
the power of wind can chill
and the power of a mind can learn
the power of anger can rage
inside until it tears u apart
but the power of a smile
especially yours can heal a frozen heart
– Tupac Shakur
From his collection, The Rose That Grew From Concrete (1999)
The first poet to inspire me. I heard him from my mother’s stereo, every local radio and saw him referenced in damn near every video. He was one of the realest. Every time I listen to him, I run to paper and pen. Who was the first poet to inspire you? I need answers, been wanting to explore…

Very good poem by him, my inspiration came from Langston Hughes
I used to manage design interns. One of them was a real Tupac fan. I never knew! What are some of your favs?
I have so many haha temptations, can’t c me, toss it up and some others I can’t think of at the moment
I really to hear a positive thought today. Merci beaucoup to you.
P.S. Very first poet to impress me, probably Dr. Seuss. Later, Shakespeare.
Poets: Pablo Neruda, Sara Teasdale, Florence Welch just off the top of my head
These names are new to me. I’ll definitely look them up
I searched “Tupac” in wordpress and this was the first blog that popped up. His writing has definitely inspired me, but the first one was Langston Hughes.
Hughes is one of my favorites
His music saved my life! 🖤
Right? I swear whenever I’m down his rhymes and energy snatch me back up
He’s a necessity now.
